Rossland might be best known for its ski slopes and rugged mountain biking. Still, this alpine gem in British Columbia also has a creative heartbeat. All along its historic streets, especially Columbia Avenue, you’ll discover public art tucked into corners, bold sculptures in open spaces, and colourful surprises on every block.
It’s art, but not the “stay-behind-glass” kind. Here, creativity is woven into the town itself—offbeat, hands-on, and deeply tied to Rossland’s adventurous spirit.

The Rossland Art Walk
The Rossland Art Walk, hosted by the Rossland Arts Council, is your self-guided invitation into the town’s creative side. You’ll stroll past murals, sculptures, galleries, and creative spaces with many of them inside restored heritage buildings that still carry the energy of Rossland’s gold rush roots. Two of our must-see stops:
Sphere of Influence – Tucked between Columbia Avenue and Sourdough Alley, this striking sculpture rolled in during spring 2015 just as the last snow melted. Crafted entirely from recycled bike parts, it’s airy, industrial, and perfectly in tune with Rossland’s biking-meets-art vibe.
Olaus Jeldness Statue – This bronze tribute honours Olaus Jeldness, a Norwegian mining engineer who struck gold here in the boomtown days and famously introduced competitive skiing to Canada. He once skied down Red Mountain in a full suit and tie with a champagne toast waiting at the bottom. Legend status confirmed.

Stay at the Prestige Mountain Resort Rossland
After a full day of art, history, and alpine air, you’ll want a cozy, stylish place to land. Enter the Prestige Mountain Resort Rossland. Located right on Columbia Avenue, it’s not just close to the action; It’s part of it.
This boutique-style hotel blends modern comfort with lodge-style warmth. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by decor that pays tribute to Rossland’s alpine roots and a team that makes every stay feel like home. If you happen to be in Rossland in the winter and want to spend the day at RED Mountain Resort skiing or snowboarding, the shuttle bus stops right in front of the Prestige making it easy to get around town no matter the weather.
We’ve stayed in a few rooms here, but what stands out for us? The French Glitz room. Think lime green couches, mirrored furniture, and chandeliers everywhere. It’s quirky, it’s glam and it’s delightfully unexpected. And honestly? That’s Rossland in a nutshell.
Unwind, Recharge, Explore Again
Looking to relax those post-hike or après-art legs? Head straight to the sauna and hot tub for the ultimate way to wind down after a day on the trails or exploring town. Whether you’ve been biking, hiking, fishing or panning for gold, this is where the soreness disappears.
And when you’re ready to re-enter adventure mode? You’re just steps from everything like local cafés, funky shops, historic sites, and yes, more art.

More Than Meets the Eye
Rossland is a town with layers: Gold rush grit, a snow-loving legacy, and an undeniable creative current.
Even the buildings have stories to tell, with brick façades, old-time signage, and repurposed spaces now home to art studios, boutiques, and galleries.
From summer street festivals to cozy winter craft fairs, the creative scene here doesn’t take a season off. And you don’t need to be an “art person” to enjoy it. Just bring your curiosity and a pair of walking shoes.
